The stage was set for a thrilling college football showdown as the 15th-ranked Pitt Panthers squared off against the 5th-ranked Cincinnati Bearcats at Heinz Field. Led by coach Dave Wannstedt, the Panthers aimed to capitalize on home-field advantage, while coach Brian Kelly's Bearcats sought to solidify their national title aspirations.

The first half belonged to the Panthers, as they built a commanding 21-point lead. Running back Dion Lewis spearheaded the offensive charge, finding the end zone twice, while quarterback Bill Stull connected with wide receiver Jonathan Baldwin for another touchdown. However, the Bearcats, led by the explosive Mardy Gilyard, refused to back down. Gilyard unleashed a spectacular performance, racking up 374 yards and two touchdowns as Cincinnati clawed their way back into the game.

With just over a minute remaining, Lewis's third rushing touchdown put the Panthers ahead 44-38. But a crucial mistake on the extra-point attempt, a muffed snap, kept the door open for the Bearcats. Cincinnati capitalized on the opportunity, as quarterback Tony Pike found Armon Binns for a 29-yard touchdown pass with 33 seconds left, securing a thrilling 45-44 victory. This unforgettable game, later ranked 127th on ESPN's list of the Greatest College Games, is a testament to the unpredictable nature of college football and the power of perseverance.

November 26, 1994 Choke at the Doak - 'Noles 28 Point Comeback vs Florida

The November 26, 1994, clash between the Florida Gators and Florida State Seminoles is famously remembered as the "Choke at Doak." This game stands as one of the most unforgettable moments in the storied Sunshine State rivalry and tied the NCAA record for the largest fourth-quarter comeback. Both teams entered the game with identical 9-1 records, squaring off at FSU's Doak Campbell Stadium in Tallahassee.

Steve Spurrier's Gators dominated early, building what seemed like an insurmountable 31-3 lead heading into the fourth quarter. The game appeared to be well in hand, with Florida cruising toward a decisive victory. However, the Seminoles, led by quarterback Danny Kanell, staged a stunning comeback. Kanell, who was nearly benched by head coach Bobby Bowden, threw for an impressive 232 yards and a touchdown in the final quarter alone. Florida State scored 28 unanswered points, capped by Rock Preston’s 4-yard touchdown run with just 1:45 remaining.

Rather than attempting a two-point conversion for the win, Bowden opted for the extra point, securing a 31-31 tie. In the era before college overtime rules, the game ended without a winner. Reflecting on the result, Bowden quipped, "It is a pretty dang good win … I mean tie." In 2019, ESPN ranked it the 51st greatest college football game of all time.

The Philly Bizzard

**Football Flashback:** December 19, 1948, saw a unique doubleheader in professional football. While the All-American Football Conference held its championship game that day, the NFL also crowned its champion in a brutal battle of wills. The Philadelphia Eagles hosted the Chicago Cardinals at Shibe Park in a game that became known as "The Philly Blizzard."

Conditions were absolutely frigid. With temperatures hovering around 27 degrees, nearly five inches of snow had to be removed from the playing surface. Despite these efforts, heavy snow continued to fall throughout the game, forcing the stadium lights to remain on despite it being a bright, albeit snowy, afternoon.

The inclement weather made the game a true test of endurance. Visibility was poor, and officials faced the daunting task of identifying the field lines amidst the swirling snow. The defenses dominated, with the only score coming in the third quarter when the Eagles capitalized on a Cardinals fumble, leading to a touchdown by Steve Van Buren. The final score: Philadelphia Eagles 7, Chicago Cardinals 0. It was a victory forged in the face of a ferocious blizzard, a testament to the grit and determination of the players who battled through the elements to claim the NFL Championship.

Nov 16, 2013 The Prayer at Jordan-Hare

The 2013 college football season was filled with dramatic finishes, but few were as jaw-dropping as the one that unfolded on November 16th at Jordan-Hare Stadium. In a game between the No. 7 Auburn Tigers and the No. 25 Georgia Bulldogs, the stage was set for a classic college football showdown.

With just seconds remaining in the fourth quarter, Auburn trailed Georgia 38-37. Facing a daunting fourth-and-18 from their own 27-yard line, the Tigers turned to their junior quarterback, Nick Marshall. As the clock ticked down, Marshall launched a Hail Mary pass towards the end zone. The ball hung in the air, seemingly forever, as Georgia defenders leaped to intercept it. However, the ball was tipped multiple times, deflecting into the hands of Auburn wide receiver Ricardo Louis.

In a moment of pure chaos, Louis caught the ball and raced into the end zone, securing a miraculous 73-yard touchdown. The improbable play, now famously known as "The Prayer at Jordan-Hare," stunned the college football world and propelled Auburn to a thrilling 43-38 victory. This iconic moment remains one of the most unforgettable plays in college football history, a testament to the unpredictable nature of the sport and the power of hope.

On November 30, 1974, a football game sits high on the list of Greatest College Football Games and in sports history is known as "The Comeback." The stage was set at the LA Coliseum, where the Notre Dame Fighting Irish held a commanding 24-6 lead over the USC Trojans at halftime.

Undeterred by the deficit, USC head coach John McKay delivered a rousing halftime speech, famously predicting that Trojan running back Anthony Davis would return the second-half kickoff for a touchdown. Whether it was a stroke of genius or a simple motivational tactic, McKay's words ignited a spark within the USC team.

As the second half began, Davis did exactly as McKay predicted. He electrified the crowd with a dazzling 102-yard kickoff return touchdown, igniting an incredible comeback. USC proceeded to score 49 unanswered points, turning the game into a rout and securing a 55-24 victory.

This historic comeback has been immortalized in college football lore. ESPN has even ranked it as the 28th-best collegiate game in the first 150 years of the sport. The 1974 USC-Notre Dame game remains a testament to the power of belief, the magic of sports, and the enduring legacy of "The Comeback."

November 25, 1971 #1 Huskers vs #2 Sooners

Billed as the \"Game of the Century\", the contest more than lived up to its hype, with No. 1 Nebraska Norman with a 35-31 win over the No. 2 Sooners. — www.youtube.com

On a frigid Thanksgiving Day in 1971, the college football world bore witness to a clash of titans. The top-ranked Nebraska Cornhuskers, riding a 29-game unbeaten streak, traveled to Norman, Oklahoma, to face the second-ranked Sooners. This highly anticipated matchup, dubbed the "Game of the Century," lived up to its billing.

The game pitted two offensive juggernauts against each other. Nebraska's formidable defense, anchored by All-Americans like Larry Jacobson and Rich Glover, was tasked with containing Oklahoma's potent wishbone offense led by the dynamic quarterback Jack Mildren. The Sooners, known for their explosive plays, challenged the Huskers' stout defense, while Nebraska's methodical ground game kept the pressure on Oklahoma.

The game was a back-and-forth affair with multiple lead changes. Johnny Rodgers electrified the crowd with a dazzling 72-yard punt return for a touchdown. However, it was Nebraska's fullback, Jeff Kinney, who emerged as the hero, scoring four crucial touchdowns to seal the 35-31 victory for the Cornhuskers. This thrilling contest, filled with high-stakes drama and unforgettable moments, is widely regarded as one of the greatest college football games ever played.

Notre Dame vs Army - Nov 9, 1946

The November 9, 1946, clash between Army and Notre Dame was a highly anticipated college football showdown, pitting the nation's top two teams against each other. The game, held at Yankee Stadium, was a defensive struggle that ultimately ended in a scoreless tie. The result was so unexpected that one newspaper headline famously declared it "Much Ado About Nothing-Nothing."

Despite the lack of points, the game was a thrilling back-and-forth affair. Notre Dame, ranked second in the nation, managed to advance to the Army 4-yard line, while Army, the top-ranked team, crossed midfield nine times. However, both defenses held strong, preventing either team from finding the end zone.

The scoreless tie had significant implications for both teams. Both Army and Notre Dame finished the season undefeated with one tie. While Army had dominated the regular season, the AP Poll ultimately voted Notre Dame as the national champions. Despite the lack of offensive fireworks, the game's historical significance and intense competition have earned it a place in college football lore. In 2019, ESPN ranked it as the 26th Greatest College Game ever.

A Night of Heartbreak & History at Mile High Stadium
