Born August 25, 1965, in Birmingham, Alabama was Cornelius Bennett was a former linebacker from the University Alabama. This prolific LB remarkably is one of only two Bama players to have ever been names as an All-American three times (LB Woodrow Lowe being the other.)

He is remembered in the College Football Hall of Fame, where he entered as part of the induction class of 2005. Bennett went on to play professionally for the Buffalo Bills, Atlanta Falcons and the Indianapolis Colts at LB. He also was selected to 5 Pro Bowls and was the AFC Defensive Player of the Year two times in 1988 and 1991.

Bennett played in all four of Buffalo's Super Bowl appearances in the 1990's and then he played in a fifth SB with the Falcons.

Marty Lyons wasn't a flashy headline grabber. He wasn't the quarterback slinging bombs or the running back breaking ankles. Yet, for twelve seasons, his name echoed through NFL stadiums, whispered with respect by teammates and feared by opponents. Lyons was the rock of the defensive line, the immovable object at the heart of some of the league's most dominant defenses.

Emerging from a small Pennsylvania town, Lyons honed his grit on the gridiron at Notre Dame. There, he carved a reputation as a relentless tackler and run-stuffer, earning All-American honors and a first-round draft pick to the Miami Dolphins. In South Florida, his impact was immediate. He became the linchpin of the "Killer Bees" defense, a swarming unit that terrorized offenses and propelled the Dolphins to two Super Bowl appearances.

Lyons wasn't flashy. He didn't rack up sacks like candy on Halloween. His power lay in his unwavering presence, his ability to occupy blockers and disrupt running lanes, creating opportunities for his teammates to feast. He was a master of leverage, using his brute strength and intelligence to make linemen twice his size look like mere speed bumps.

Beyond stats, Lyons embodied the heart of the Dolphins. He was a tireless worker, a vocal leader, and a calming presence in the trenches. His relentless pursuit of the ball was infectious, inspiring those around him to push their limits. He was the silent warrior, the unsung hero whose contributions paved the way for others to shine.

Injuries ultimately shortened his career, but Lyons' legacy as a true defensive warrior remained. He retired with over 600 tackles and countless memories of battles won and quarterbacks frustrated. He earned a place in the Miami Dolphins Hall of Fame, a testament to his impact on the franchise and the respect he commanded from players and fans alike.

Marty Lyons might not be the first name that comes to mind when reminiscing about NFL greats, but for those who understand the intricate dance of defensive dominance, his name carries a silent power.

The State of Alabama is the successful football program of the University of Alabama. The team has made the students, faculty, alums, and fans proud to support them at home and away games.

The University of Alabama's gridiron dynasty began in 1892, sparked by a law student named William G. Little. Returning from prep school in Massachusetts, Little brought his love for football and introduced it to fellow students. That year, Alabama formed its first team, led by Little as captain and E.B. Beaumont as coach. Though their inaugural season was winless, the seeds were sown for a program that would rise to become one of the most dominant in college football history.

'Bama has an excellent tradition of quality pigskin play and is a perennial contender for their respective conference title and sometimes even the National Championship.

Born September 11, 1913, in Arkansas, was College Football Hall of Fame Coach Paul Bear Bryant. Bryant is a special breed of man who is a revered coach in college football history.

Known for his gruff demeanor and relentless pursuit of victory, Bryant coached the University of Alabama for 25 years, transforming the Crimson Tide into a powerhouse. His dedication to discipline, hard work, and physical conditioning led to numerous national championships, solidifying his reputation as one of the greatest coaches in history. Bryant's iconic image, often seen wearing his signature fedora, has become synonymous with Alabama football. His legacy continues to inspire coaches and players alike, reminding them of the importance of perseverance, commitment, and the pursuit of excellence.  

Coach set a record (which was later broken) for the most games won in a collegiate coach's career.

The majority of the NCAA victories came during his tenure (1958–82) at the University of Alabama. During his 25-year tenure as Alabama's head coach, he amassed six national championships and thirteen conference championships. Prior to heading up the Crimson Tide, Bryant was head football coach at the University of Maryland, the University of Kentucky, and Texas A&M University.

Bart Starr, born Bryan Bartlett Starr on January 9, 1934, was an American professional football quarterback who spent his entire 16-year career with the Green Bay Packers. A two-time NFL Most Valuable Player and Super Bowl champion, Starr is considered one of the greatest quarterbacks of all time.

Early Life and College Career:

Starr grew up in Montgomery, Alabama, where he played football, basketball, and baseball. He attended the University of Alabama, where he was an All-American quarterback and led the Crimson Tide to a victory in the 1953 Orange Bowl.

Green Bay Packers:

Starr was drafted by the Green Bay Packers in the 17th round of the 1956 NFL Draft. He spent his first few seasons as a backup but took over as the starting quarterback in 1959. Under the guidance of coach Vince Lombardi, Starr and the Packers became one of the most dominant teams in NFL history.

Lombardi instilled a culture of discipline and hard work in the Packers, and Starr thrived in this environment. He became known for his leadership, intelligence, and clutch performances. The Packers won five NFL championships between 1961 and 1967, including the first two Super Bowls.

Starr was named Super Bowl MVP for both Super Bowls I and II. He is one of only two quarterbacks to win the Super Bowl MVP award in multiple games (Tom Brady has five).

Post-Playing Career:

After retiring from playing in 1971, Starr served as the head coach of the Packers for nine seasons. He compiled a 52-76-3 record but led the Packers to the playoffs three times. He was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1977.

Bart Starr is considered one of the greatest quarterbacks of all time. He was a two-time NFL Most Valuable Player, a two-time Super Bowl MVP, and a five-time NFL champion. He is also a member of the Pro Football Hall of Fame and the Green Bay Packers Hall of Fame. Starr's leadership, intelligence, and clutch performances made him a legend in Green Bay and throughout the NFL.

Pooley Hubert was of the top early Southern college football players. Pooley played quarterback for coach Wallace Wade's Alabama Crimson Tide teams from 1922 to 1925, leading Alabama to its first bowl game, the 1926 Rose Bowl, Which changed the perception and legitimacy of football in the South.

Allison "Pooley" Hubert is a name synonymous with Alabama Crimson Tide football's golden age. A versatile athlete who excelled on both sides of the ball, Hubert's impact on the program is immeasurable.

Emerging as a star in the early 1920s, Hubert quickly established himself as the heart and soul of the Crimson Tide. As quarterback, his ability to both pass and run made him a nightmare for opponents. His leadership and playmaking skills were instrumental in Alabama's rise to national prominence.

Beyond his offensive prowess, Hubert was a defensive stalwart, earning accolades as one of the greatest defensive backs of his era. His versatility and tenacity made him a dominant force on the field.

Hubert's crowning achievement came in 1926 when he led Alabama to a historic victory over Washington in the Rose Bowl, marking the first time a Southern team had competed in the prestigious game. His performance in that game cemented his legacy as a Crimson Tide legend.

Beyond his playing days, Hubert continued to contribute to the sport as a coach at Mississippi State Teachers College and Virginia Military Institute. His impact on Alabama football, however, remains unparalleled. Pooley Hubert's name will forever be etched in the Crimson Tide's storied history.

July 14, 1911 - Carrollton, Mississippi - Riley Smith is enshrined in the College Football Hall of Fame as a quarterback out of the University or Alabama. The National Football Foundation claims that this 6-1, 195-pounder could pass, block, punt, kick extra points and boot field goals, yes just about anything on the gridiron. In 1935 he was named to the All-America teams of the Associated Press, Collier's Magazine and the All- America Board. He also won the Jacobs Trophy as the best blocker in the Southeastern Conference. Mr Smith performed exceptionally and his contributions were vital in the 1935 Rose Bowl win over Stanford as he kicked the final points in the 29-13 contest to give Alabama the victory. Riley is known for being the first player to play football in the NFL that was drafted! Though the University of Chicago's Jay Berwanger, was picked one selection before Smith in the NFL's first draft selection process of 1936, Berwanger never played in the NFL. In the late 1930's Mr. Riley served as the QB for the Boston and later Washington Redskins (the teamm moved to the Nation's Capital just before his second season). His pro career started off very promising as during the 1936 and 1937 seasons he missed only three minutes in 26 Redskins games, but an injury prematurely cut short his promising NFL career. He later became the head coach at Washington and Lee University for their football program.
