On October 20, 1941, Don Trull, a former quarterback from Baylor University, was born. Trull was an All-American and twice won the Sammy Baugh Trophy (1962, 1963) as the nation’s top passer. Trull finished his collegiate career with over 4,000 passing yards and 27 touchdowns, leading the nation in both passing yards and passing touchdowns in his senior 1963 season. He also guided the Bears to two bowl victories: the 1961 Gotham Bowl and the 1963 Bluebonnet Bowl.

The website footballfoundation.org points out that he was good in his studies, too, as Trull was Baylor’s first-ever NFF National Scholar-Athlete in 1963, making him a true pioneer of the student-athlete ideal. The National Football Foundation selected Don Trull to enter the College Football Hall of Fame in 2013.
