Bill Parcells coached the New York Jets for three seasons from 1997 to 1999, taking over a franchise that had finished 1–15 the previous year. His impact was immediate: in 1997, the Jets improved to 9–7.+1

His most successful season came in 1998, when he led the team to a 12–4 record and its first division title since 1969. The Jets reached the AFC Championship Game but ultimately lost to the Denver Broncos. Despite losing quarterback Vinny Testaverde to injury in 1999, Parcells still managed an 8–8 finish. He resigned after the 1999 season, leaving with a regular-season record of 29–19 and remaining one of the few coaches in franchise history with a winning record.
