Bill Parcells coached the New York Jets for three seasons from 1997 to 1999, taking over a franchise that had finished 1โ15 the previous year. His impact was immediate: in 1997, the Jets improved to 9โ7.+1
His most successful season came in 1998, when he led the team to a 12โ4 record and its first division title since 1969. The Jets reached the AFC Championship Game but ultimately lost to the Denver Broncos. Despite losing quarterback Vinny Testaverde to injury in 1999, Parcells still managed an 8โ8 finish. He resigned after the 1999 season, leaving with a regular-season record ofย 29โ19 and remaining one of the few coaches in franchise history with a winning record.
