Football Bio

January 19, 1974 – Aliceville, Alabama – The great Florida State Offensive Tackle Walter Jones celebrated his birth. Walter was chosen in the 1997 NFL Draft as the 6th player taken overall by the Seattle Seahawks. According to the Pro Football Hall of Fame, Jones played 12 seasons and made 9 Pro Bowls, all with Seattle. In 2014, Walter Jones had his football legacy enshrined in the Pro Football Hall of Fame in Canton, Ohio.

The Immovable Legend of Seattle

Walter Jones’ career is a masterclass in consistency and dominance. Drafted out of Florida State, where he allowed only one sack in his entire starting career, Jones brought that same impenetrable protection to the Pacific Northwest. Throughout 180 starts for the Seahawks, he was called for a holding penalty only nine times and surrendered just 23 sacks in over 5,500 pass attempts.

His presence was the engine behind the Seahawks’ most successful era of the 2000s, including a trip to Super Bowl XL. Jones was the lead blocker for Shaun Alexander during his historic 2005 MVP season, proving that a great offensive tackle is as valuable as any skill player on the field. Retiring with his #71 jersey high in the rafters of Lumen Field, “Big Walt” remains the gold standard for offensive line play.
