By Darin Hayes October 19, 1911 – University of Washington guard Max Starcevich is born. Max’s bio on the National Football Foundation’s website reveals that he worked in a steel mill and attended a Junior college in Duluth, Minnesota, before enrolling at Washington.
The Huskies tried him at fullback, tackle, and guard. At that position, he made the All-American team in 1936 and led the University of Washington to the Rose Bowl. He played in the 1937 College All-Star Game and helped the college All-Stars team upset the NFL Champion Green Bay Packers 6-0. The National Football Foundation voted to induct Max Starcevich into its College Football Hall of Fame in 1990.
