The East Cleveland Leader’s headline buzzed about the golden anniversary of a football field in Eastern Ohio: Shaw Field.
On October 10, 1957, the venue was celebrating fifty years of hosting high school football games. Think about that for a moment: it means it played its first game in 1907, right as rule makers were developing American football rules that would soon evolve our gridiron sport from a brutal running game as the newly legalized forward pass was introduced.
Cleveland’s Shaw High School was the home of the field.
