LeRoy Butler III was born on July 19, 1968, in Jacksonville, Florida. Overcoming severe childhood physical struggles that initially required him to wear leg braces and use a wheelchair, he developed into a phenomenal athlete. Butler played college football for the Florida State University Seminoles from 1986 to 1989. Initially playing safety before transitioning to cornerback to fill team needs, his stellar college career culminated in 1989 when he earned consensus All-American honors.
Road to the Pro Game
Butler entered the professional ranks when the Green Bay Packers selected him in the second round with the 48th overall pick of the 1990 NFL Draft. He proved to be a highly versatile defender. Butler spent his entire 12-year professional career (1990–2001) in Green Bay, serving as the premier defensive anchor of a legendary Packers secondary.
