July 20, 1945 – Greenwood, South Carolina – Jake Scott was born. He’s a safety from Georgia who was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame in the class of 2011.
Besides playing defensive back, Jake was also an excellent punt returner for the Bulldogs from 1967 to 1968, leading the Bulldogs to an SEC championship in his final year in Athens.
In addition to making numerous All-American teams in 1968, he was named the SEC’s most valuable player by the Nashville Banner, according to the National Football Foundation.
Mr. Scott later played in the NFL for both the Dolphins and the Redskins, and in Miami, he made five consecutive Pro Bowls, recording an amazing 35 interceptions in five years with the Orange and Blue.
In Washington, he added another 14 picks in three seasons.
