August 10, 1970 – Gino Toretta, the quarterback from the University of Miami, who is forever remembered in the College Football Hall of Fame from the induction class of 2009, was born.
Mr. Toretta won the 1992 Heisman Trophy and led his Hurricane teams of 89 in 1991 to the National Championship. [National Football Foundation]
He had a five-year career in the NFL, serving as a backup quarterback for several different teams.
