After his football career was over, Moomaw was a Presbyterian Minister. In his early years in the UCLA football program, he terrorized opposing quarterbacks by coveting the ball they possessed, intercepting 11 passes in his career.

He also sought out and tackled opposing ball carriers in their tracks with his low-hitting signature tackles. In 1952, he was the Associated Press Lineman of the Year as he led the Bruins to an 8-1 record.

After College, he played in the CFL and had a great career there. Donn Moomaw was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame in 1973
