Born on March 28, 1987, in Norco, California, Tobin Bo Gunnar Gerhart arrived at Stanford as a record-shattering high school prospect. While his bruising style earned him the nickname “The Norco Nightmare,” his impact on the gridiron redefined the modern era of Cardinal football.

College Career
Gerhart was the engine behind Jim Harbaugh’s “Intellectual Brutality” culture. After a modest start and a knee injury in 2007, he exploded in 2008 with 1,136 rushing yards. His 2009 senior campaign remains one of the greatest in NCAA history; he led the nation in rushing yards (1,871), touchdowns (28), and scoring (172 points). He finished as the runner-up for the Heisman Trophy in the closest vote in the award’s history (a mere 28-point margin).
Pro Teams Played On
Selected in the second round of the 2010 NFL Draft (51st overall), Gerhart played six professional seasons:
- Minnesota Vikings (2010–2013): Primarily served as the high-end backup to Adrian Peterson.
- Jacksonville Jaguars (2014–2015): Signed as a free agent to lead the backfield.
Football Legacy
Gerhart is a 2024 inductee into the College Football Hall of Fame. He is remembered as the power back who transformed Stanford from a 1-win program into a national powerhouse, setting the stage for future stars like Christian McCaffrey. He still holds the Stanford record for career rushing touchdowns (44).
