January 16, 1953 – Akron, Ohio – Dave Brown, the safety from Michigan, was born. Michigan had a remarkable defense when Brown was on the team. The Wolverines were 30-2-1, and in 33 games played, his teams surrendered more than 10 points in only 5 games and registered 11 shutouts, according to the NFF. As a junior, Brown was a consensus All-America selection and scored a TD in each of his 3 seasons. Dave Brown was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame as a legend in 2007.
A Legacy of Defensive Dominance
Dave Brown’s impact on the game extended far beyond the campus of Ann Arbor. After helping Michigan lead the nation in scoring defense twice, he took his talents to the NFL as a first-round selection for the Pittsburgh Steelers, where he immediately earned a Super Bowl ring. His greatest professional legacy, however, was forged in Seattle. As the heart of the Seahawks’ secondary for 11 seasons, he set franchise records that still stand today.
