Born September 20, 1935, in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, was the fullback that hailed from LSU during the late 1950’s, Jim Taylor. Jim was selected as an All-American after the 1957 season for the Tigers. He was a big back for the era at 6 foot tall and weighing in at 214 pounds and the Packers picked him as the 15th overall pick in the 1958 NFL Draft.  Taylor did not disappoint as he played 10 seasons for the Pack and had a streak of  5 straight seasons of rushing for over 1000 yards! For his career he rushed for a total of 8597 yards and caught an amazing 225 passes for a combined total yardage of over 10,500 yards. The 1962 NFL Title game may be his watershed moment though in the League.  Taylor had 31 carries for 85 yards and a 7 yard touchdown run in the Championship game. Though he did fumble twice in the contest the legendary fullback added 3 receptions for 20 yards. The Pro Football Hall of Fame enshrined Jim Taylor in 1976.

Born December 29, 1936 - Ray Nitschke the feared middle linebacker of the Green Bay Packers was born. Ray was the third overall pick in the 1958 NFL Draft by the Packers and he played with the team for 15 seasons according to his bio on the Pro Football HOF. Nitschke defended both the run and the pass well as his 25 career interceptions would indicate. Ray was a member of 5 champion Green Bay teams and was the MVP of the 1962 NFL Championship game. The Pro Football Hall of Fame placed Ray Nitschke in a gold jacket in 1978.

Born May 15, 1970, in Cleveland, Ohio, was Desmond Howard the University of Michigan’s wide receiver and kick returner from 1989 to 1991. Howard led the Big Ten in scoring while helping the Wolverines to three conference titles and two Rose Bowls during his time in Ann Arbor. He did so well that he won the Heisman Trophy, was named a consensus All-America, took home the Maxwell Award and Walter Camp Player of the Year all in 1991 during his prolific senior season. The FootballFoundation.org website claims  finished his career with 134 receptions for 2,146 yards and 32 touchdowns and set the Michigan record for most touchdowns (23) and points (138) scored in a single-season. Desmond Howard was honored with induction into the College Football Hall of Fame in 2010 after the National Football Foundation tabulated their votes. Desmond was the fourth overall selection in the 1992 NFL Draft by the Washington Redskins, Howard spent 11 seasons as a pro. Howard claimed the Super Bowl XXXI Most Valuable Player when he led the Green Bay Packers over the New England Patriots after setting Super Bowl records for punt return yards (90) and total return yards (244) in a game. He also set the Super Bowl record for longest kick return of 99 yards.

Born May 3, 1941, in Mount Holly, New Jersey, was Penn State’s brilliant end from 1960 to 1962, Dave Robinson. The NFF shares that Robinson was an All-America in 1962. Dave had also been elected to the Gator Bowl Hall of Fame. In 1962 the Newark Athletic Club named Robinson the College Player of the Year. The Philadelphia Sports Writers Association named him the College Lineman of the Year as the Nittany Lions had a 24-8 record in his three years there and won two Lambert Trophies as best team in the East. Dave Robinson received the great honor of being selected for inclusion into the College Football Hall of Fame in 1997. In 1963 the big end was picked by both the Chargers in the AFL and the Packers in the 1963 Drafts. He of course chose Green Bay and played outside linebacker for Vince Lombardi’s team playing on three straight NFL Championship squads from 1965 to 1967. He was also on the Super Bowl I and II teams that took the title for Green Bay. The Pro Football Hall of Fame says he intercepted 27 passes for 449 yards and scored one pick six. Born April 10, 1909, in Toronto, Ohio, was the stud fullback of 1929 to 1931 from Bucknell University, Clarke Hinkle arrived into this life. The FootballFoundation.org bio on Clarke states that he might just be the best player to ever suit up for Bucknell. Hinkle was blessed with great foot speed and mobility which gave him excellent range, both on offense and the defensive side of the ball. He was nicknamed the "Lackawanna Express," as he first achieved fame and notoriety in 1929, his sophomore season, when he led the East in scoring with 128 points.

He got better the more he played too as Clarke led Bucknell to an undefeated season in 1931. Clarke Hinkle’s collegiate football records are celebrated in the College Football Hall of Fame after his induction in 1971. Hinkle joined the Green Bay Packers in 1932 and he was the answer to counter the Bears Bronko Nagurski, as the two battled head to head on many occasions. Bronko was the big powerful runner of the era but the stout Hinkle, who was 30 pounds lighter, was determined to hold his own with anyone on an NFL gridiron. Clark's moto was "get to the Bronk before he gets to me," a tactic he used to perfection one day in 1934. Trapped on the sidelines by Nagurski, Clarke escaped his tackle by driving directly into and over him. The Bears' superstar was helped from the field with a broken nose and a fractured rib.

The Pro Football Hall of Fame says that during his 10 years with the Green Bay Packers, Hinkle was named first- or second-team all-league each year! In 1964 Clarke Hinkle was enshrined into the Pro Football Hall of Fame.

Bart Starr, born Bryan Bartlett Starr on January 9, 1934, was an American professional football quarterback who spent his entire 16-year career with the Green Bay Packers. A two-time NFL Most Valuable Player and Super Bowl champion, Starr is considered one of the greatest quarterbacks of all time.

Early Life and College Career:

Starr grew up in Montgomery, Alabama, where he played football, basketball, and baseball. He attended the University of Alabama, where he was an All-American quarterback and led the Crimson Tide to a victory in the 1953 Orange Bowl.

Green Bay Packers:

Starr was drafted by the Green Bay Packers in the 17th round of the 1956 NFL Draft. He spent his first few seasons as a backup but took over as the starting quarterback in 1959. Under the guidance of coach Vince Lombardi, Starr and the Packers became one of the most dominant teams in NFL history.

Lombardi instilled a culture of discipline and hard work in the Packers, and Starr thrived in this environment. He became known for his leadership, intelligence, and clutch performances. The Packers won five NFL championships between 1961 and 1967, including the first two Super Bowls.

Starr was named Super Bowl MVP for both Super Bowls I and II. He is one of only two quarterbacks to win the Super Bowl MVP award in multiple games (Tom Brady has five).

Post-Playing Career:

After retiring from playing in 1971, Starr served as the head coach of the Packers for nine seasons. He compiled a 52-76-3 record but led the Packers to the playoffs three times. He was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1977.

Standing at just 5'11" and 202 lbs, Clark Hinkle carved a unique name for himself in NFL history as a dominant two-way player for the Green Bay Packers (1933-1941). Despite his smaller stature, he possessed tremendous heart, tenacity, and talent, leaving a lasting mark on the league.

On Offense:

-Hinkle amassed 3,860 rushing yards (then an NFL record), showcasing his powerful running and shifty moves.

-He caught 160 passes for 1,702 yards and 14 touchdowns, demonstrating his versatility as a receiving threat.

-He even served as the Packers' punter and placekicker for several seasons, further highlighting his well-rounded skillset.

On Defense:

-Hinkle was a fierce linebacker, earning the nickname "Iron Man" for his bone-crushing tackles and relentless pursuit.

-He proudly claimed he only allowed one receiver to get behind him during his entire career, a testament to his exceptional coverage skills.
His defensive prowess earned him three All-Pro selections, adding to his offensive accolades.
Legacy:

-Hinkle was selected for the Pro Bowl every year of his career (7x) and earned All-Pro honors eight times.

-He helped lead the Packers to three NFL championship games, winning in 1936 and 1939.
His career was unfortunately cut short by World War II service in 1942, leaving his potential unfulfilled.

-He was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1964, recognized as one of the greatest two-way players in NFL history.

Born April 24, 1903, in Cleveland, Ohio, was Mike Michalske the Penn State All-american guard. Mike  signed on in the pros with the  original American Football League’s New York Yankees in 1927. He played there for two seasons until the League disbanded and then he joined the Green Bay Packers of the NFL in 1929 then anchored their lines all the way until 1937. Mike’s bio on the Pro Football Hall of Fame says that Michalske was particularly adept at going after the passer. He also championed the idea of using former fullbacks at guard because they were fast and explosive. He sold the idea to Green Bay Packers coach Curly Lambeau and thus it was no accident that many fine Green Bay guards had cut their football teeth as fullbacks. Michalske  was a great two-way player as the guy played 60 minutes of darn near every game he played in earning him the name of “Iron Mike.” The Packers won NFL titles in 1929, 1930, and 1931, and Michalske was named All-NFL in 1929, 1930, 1931, 1934, and 1935. In 1964 the Pro Football Hall of Fame enshrined Mike Michalske into their Canton, ohio museum of legends. NFL Jersey Number 36

Born on June 11, 1913, in Brooklyn, New York, was Vince Lombardi, the Pro Football Hall of Fame enshrinee, NFL coach of the Green Bay Packers, and former NFL executive.

Yes, even the trophy awarded to the Super Bowl Champion each season bears his name due to his importance to the NFL. Before becoming the Packers' head man, he had only five years of NFL experience as an assistant coach with the New York Giants. At his first team meeting, Lombardi challenged his new team by saying, "I have never been on a losing team, gentlemen, and I do not intend to start now!" The Packers responded as they improved from 1-10-1 in 1958 to 7-5 in 1959 in Lombardi's first season on the job. In 1960, Lombardi's Packers won the NFL championship five times in seven years and the first two Super Bowls in just ten seasons! Coach Vince had an overall career record of 105-35-6 as a head coach. The Pro Football Hall of Fame website claims that not only did he turn the Green Bay Packers around and take the league crown in 7 of nine seasons, but he also, in his final year as a coach, took the dismal Washington team and gave them their first winning season in 14! Vince Lombardi was enshrined into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1971, a year after he died of cancer at age 57.

It is fitting that at the end of every Super Bowl, we remember the man that helped define the game.

Anthony "Tony" Canadeo, nicknamed the "Gray Ghost of Gonzaga," carved his name into football history with the Green Bay Packers. Drafted in 1941, he was a triple-threat offensive force before serving in World War II. Upon his return, he transitioned to primarily rushing, becoming the third player in NFL history to surpass 1,000 yards in a season (1949).

Born May 5, 1919, in Chicago, Illinois, was the Swift halfback from Gonzaga, Tony Canadeo. Tony was often referred to in his college days as the "Gray Ghost of Gonzaga." Canadeo ended up signing on with the Green Bay Packers as a two way star. The Pro Football Hall of Fame tells us that as an offensive weapon he averaged 75 yards of total production per game for a span of 116 games! The Pro Football Hall of Fame enshrined Tony Canadeo in 1974.

Canadeo's versatility was unmatched. He rushed for 4,197 yards, passed for 1,642 yards, and even caught passes and returned punts and kickoffs, accumulating a jaw-dropping 8,667 total yards. His grit and determination were legendary, earning him praise from teammates like Bob Forte: "Tony was all desire."
