His exceptional receiving skills and remarkable speed and agility made him a constant threat to opposing defenses. He was a three-time All-American, earning unanimous recognition in 1925 and 1926. Oosterbaan's connection with quarterback Benny Friedman remains one of college football's most celebrated passing duos.

He chose not to pursue a professional football career immediately after graduation, instead opting to remain at Michigan as an assistant coach.
