A Legacy of Perseverance and Potential

The Akron Zips football program boasts a long and storied history, dating back to 1891. While they haven't yet captured a coveted conference championship, their journey is marked by consistent grit and determination.
Their early years saw them compete in various conferences, eventually settling in the Mid-American Conference (MAC) in 1992. They've secured two MAC East Division titles (2005 and 2020), showcasing their potential to compete at the highest levels.
Though they've only reached one bowl game (the 2005 Motor City Bowl), the Zips have produced several NFL players, including Charles Tillman and Kyle Kalis. This highlights their ability to develop talent for the professional ranks.
Today, under head coach Joe Moorhead, the Zips are focused on building a consistently winning program. Their signature triple-option offense, coupled with the passionate home-field advantage at InfoCision Stadium–Summa Field, fuels their desire to reach a bowl game and contend for a MAC championship.
With their innovative approach to NIL opportunities and unwavering commitment to improvement, the Akron Zips are poised for an exciting future in college football. Their legacy of perseverance serves as an inspiration to players and fans alike as they continue to strive for excellence on the gridiron.

Top Rushers in Auburn Football history

Legends of the Backfield:

-Carnell "Cadillac" Williams: The all-time leading rusher with 3,831 yards, Williams embodied power and grace. His Heisman-caliber junior season and key role in the undefeated 2004 team solidify his legendary status.

-Bo Jackson: A dual-threat marvel, Jackson's athleticism was unmatched. He rushed for 4,303 yards despite limited seasons, showcasing raw power and electrifying speed.

-James Brooks: "The Little Giant" racked up 3,523 yards with relentless determination. His 1971 record for rushing touchdowns (19) stood for decades, showcasing his scoring prowess.

1941 Michigan Wolverines Helmet and Uniform on Display

The winged helmet of the University of Michigan and its Hail to the Victors never rings truer than in this stunning image on a program cover from 1941.

The photo from Wikimedia Commons has a caption that reads: "October 11, 1941 University of Michigan versus the University of Pittsburgh football game program. The Board published it in Control of Physical Education at the University of Michigan."

The leather design in 1941 has the distinct pattern that we still recognize even though no face mask was equipped fo the soft material design. Note the brilliance of the winged design that carries over to the modern day helmet design of the Blue and Maize.

2011 Wisconsin Badgers Football Helmet

A Wisconsin Badger's football player holds up a helmet during a football game in November of 2007.

Check out the design of the shell, the color combo of the white background, and the cardinal red dual stripes, red emblem, and the red facemask offset by the white chinstrap. The image really captures the essence of this work of art in a game-day setting. That "W" is perfectly contoured to the overall curvature of the shell and really makes the helmet and its wearer appear in motion even when they are at a standstill.

Tweaking the Michigan Helmet Wings in 2019

Beleive it or not but even the most iconic football helmet designs get a makeover now and then. In 2019 the University of Michigan stayed true to their roots of the winged helmet design shout out on their shell design but the wing tips "flapped" a bit over the previous year.

Check out the image supplied by one Michigan publication that shows the slight fluctuation of the wing tips and size from 2018 into the 2019 design.

The wings on helmets have slight change in 2019 and maybe the influence of then Coach Jim Harbaugh and his taking of the Wolverines back into the National Spotlight had something to do with the aterations.

Louisville Cardinals Uncaged Cardinal Helmet History

The University of Louisville and Adidas unveiled the new football uniforms for the Cardinals. Take a look at the new Uncaged Cardinal Primekit strategy uniforms, which will make their on-field debut when the Cardinals face Auburn at their season opening g — www.nfl.com

The Louisville Cardinals football program boasts a rich history; their helmet designs have reflected that evolution.

The U of L helmet designs have reflected the program's evolution, balancing tradition with innovation. Here's a summary of the key eras in Louisville helmet design:

-Early Years (Pre-1980s): Information on helmet designs from very early years can be scarce. However, research suggests the Cardinals likely used a spartan leather helmet with minimal decoration in their program's early years.

-1980s and 1990s: This era saw the introduction of the iconic red Cardinals helmet. A white cardinal head logo, facing forward with a determined expression, became the primary design element. This logo remained consistent throughout this period, with minor variations in size and detailing.

-2000s: The 2000s introduced a period of experimentation. While the red base remained, the cardinal head logo saw some changes. In 2003, a more stylized head version was used, followed by a return to a more classic design in 2005. Notably, 2006 saw the introduction of a white alternate helmet with a red cardinal head logo.

-The Charlie Strong Era (2010-2013): Head coach Charlie Strong's tenure saw a return to tradition. The red helmet with the classic white cardinal head logo became the primary design, emphasizing a sense of stability and focus.

-The Lamar Jackson Era (2016-2017): Capitalizing on Lamar Jackson's electrifying play and national attention, Louisville introduced alternate helmet designs. These included a black chrome helmet with a red cardinal head logo for a more aggressive look and a white helmet with a red cardinal head and a red stripe, paying homage to the university's colors.

-Recent Years (2018-Present): The program has focused on the classic red helmet with the white cardinal head logo. However, they've continued to utilize alternate helmets for special occasions. These include a white helmet with a red cardinal head and a single red stripe, a chrome red helmet with a white cardinal head, and a black helmet with a red cardinal head and a red stripe.

The iconic red helmet and white cardinal head logo remain central to their identity, while the use of alternate helmets adds a touch of flair and reflects the program's ever-evolving landscape.
