Linebacker / Defensive End | New Orleans Saints | 1981–1993

What happens when you combine Florida speed with a “Steel City” defensive pedigree? You get Rickey Jackson, the man who single-handedly transformed the New Orleans Saints from “Aint’s” into perennial contenders. As the centerpiece of the legendary “Dome Patrol”—widely considered the greatest linebacking corps in NFL history—Jackson was a terrifying blend of pass-rush specialist and sideline-to-sideline tackler. From his record-shattering rookie year to his Super Bowl crowning with the 49ers, “City Champ” proved that true greatness isn’t just about stats; it’s about changing the culture of an entire franchise.

The jersey features the words 'NEW ORLEANS' arched in gold block letters above a large number '57' in gold digits with a white-and-black outline. The sleeves include horizontal gold-and-white stripes and smaller numbers on the shoulders. A vintage red Rawlings jock tag is sewn onto the lower right hem.

Football Bio

March 20, 1958 – Pahokee, Florida – The brilliant linebacker of the University of Pittsburgh, Rickey Jackson, was born. Jackson was selected by the New Orleans Saints in the second round, 51st overall, in the 1981 NFL Draft.

What a find he was because in just his Rookie Year, he sacked opposing quarterbacks 8 times and led the team in total tackles! Rickey played 15 seasons in the NFL, was named an All-Pro four times, and played in 6 Pro Bowls, per the Pro Football Hall of Fame. 13 of those seasons were with the Saints, but he completed his final two years with the San Francisco 49ers, playing Defensive End.

For his career, he tallied 128 sacks (and that doesn’t even count his rookie season when they were not even an official stat), 8 interceptions, and even caused one safety. Rickey Jackson in 2010 was enshrined into the Pro Football Hall of Fame.

Conclusion

Rickey Jackson’s career is a blueprint for consistency and defensive dominance. By missing only two games in 15 grueling seasons, he earned his reputation as one of the most durable “Iron Men” to ever play the position. While his 128 official sacks place him among the elite, it was his leadership within the Dome Patrol that solidified his legend, proving that a dominant defense could thrive even in the “Big Easy.” His 2010 induction into Canton was a historic milestone, marking him as the first player to enter the Hall of Fame primarily for his contributions as a New Orleans Saint.
