NFL Players Past and Present Helping During Pandemic
March 27, 2020- According to an article by the BleacherReport.com, many of the past and present football superstars have teamed up to make an NFL sponsored Public Service Announcement amidst the coronavirus outbreak in the US. PLayers such as Tom Brady, Russell Wilson and former players like Brett Favre, Deion Sanders and Ray Lewis are featured in the combined message of “Stay Home, Stay Strong.”
The League’s Commissioner, Roger Godell, issued statements to all 32 teams that closed all team facilities until further notice in March, and has also given teams other avenues to keep their respective operations being productive. The Commish issued this statement according to the report,"The challenges we face are not unique—many businesses and individuals throughout the country are experiencing and addressing similar issues.” He went on to say,”Please be assured that the NFL is well-positioned to meet these operational challenges as we prepare to offer our fans and the country an outstanding 2020 NFL season."
It was also reported by BleacherReport.com's Joseph Zucker on April 6, 2020 that the 2020 NFL draft will be held virtually to maintain social distancing on April 23-25 amid the COVID-19 pandemic. The League is really spinning this into a positive by making it a 3 day telethon as well that will benefit coronavirus relief to a variety of organizations that are helping those on the front line of the fight against the wide-spread disease. ESPN’s Adam Schefter has noted that many of the League’s GM’s will conduct their draft picks from their own homes.
There will be no fans or potential draft picks gathered at a main venue either. EA Sports will provide virtual renditions of the draft picks meeting the Commissioner to fill the void of the real thing, Kodak moments, that we have all become accustomed to in years past. The charity of the NFL and players past and present is outstanding!
We enjoy giving the special call out of these generous acts of kindness by these stars of the gridiron and their families to care for those who are less fortunate. We celebrate them, the NFL and all in our football family that are there to do great things for others. If our readers are aware of anyone else associated with any level of American football that has done a great act of kindness, please let us know via email at PigskinDispatch@gmail.com and we will get one of the crack staff to get an article up to celebrate these good people of football.
