October 15, 1917, Glen Ellyn, Illinois – Bob MacLeod was born.
Bob was a former halfback from Dartmouth University who played from 1936 through the 1938 season. He was the primary offensive weapon of Dartmouth as they won 21 of 27 games that he played in. Most opposing teams came into the games against Dartmouth to stop MacLeod, but they still had trouble doing it, as he averaged 6 yards per carry in his 3-year college career.
The National Football Foundation selected Bob MacLeod to enter the College Football Hall of Fame in 1977. Bob played with the Chicago Bears for a couple of seasons before joining the U.S. Marines to fight in World War II. After the war, he was a business leader in the magazine industry.
