As a prolific linebacker, he is one of only two Bama players to have been named an All-American three times. Linebacker Woodrow Lowe was the other.

Bennett went on to play professionally for the Buffalo Bills, Atlanta Falcons, and the Indianapolis Colts at linebacker.
