Jonathan Ogden anchors the Baltimore Ravens’ offensive line with a combination of massive size and nimble footwork that redefines the left tackle position.
Football Bio
July 31, 1974 – Hall of Fame tackle Jonathan Ogden from UCLA, an 11-time Pro Bowler for the Baltimore Ravens, was born.
His outstanding gridiron play secured a place for him in both the Pro Football Hall of Fame and the College Football Hall of Fame.
He played in the NFL for the Baltimore Ravens for 12 seasons and made the Pro Bowl 11 of those 12 seasons, according to the Pro Football Hall of Fame’s website.
The site’s bio article on Jonathan states that, in 2003, he helped pave the way for running back Jamal Lewis, who became just the fifth player in NFL history to eclipse 2,000 yards rushing in a season, including a total of 2,066 yards, and then the second most ever in a season.
And that was a record-breaking day against the Cleveland Browns, where Ogden opened up holes for Lewis, who averaged nearly 10 yards a carry to set a then-record of 295 yards in a game. Now that is some powerful blocking.
Jonathan Ogden establishes the gold standard for blindside protectors through his unmatched consistency and physical dominance. By serving as the cornerstone of the Ravens’ franchise from their very first draft pick, he paves the way for historic rushing attacks and a Super Bowl championship. His induction into both the College and Pro Football Halls of Fame cements his legacy as one of the greatest offensive linemen to ever step on the gridiron.
