The Boston Redskins began as the Boston Braves in 1932, founded by George Preston Marshall. To distance the team from the baseball Braves, they rebranded as the Redskins in 1933. Despite winning the Eastern Division in 1936, Marshall was dissatisfied with low fan support in Boston and moved the NFL championship game that year to New York.
Following the 1936 season, the franchise relocated to Washington, D.C., where they played as the Washington Redskins for over eight decades. In 2020, following years of pressure regarding the team name, the franchise temporarily became the Washington Football Team before officially rebranding as the Washington Commanders in 2022.
