When the Scandal broke, Warner disclaimed any knowledge of it. If he had stepped forward and told the whole story, there’s a good chance Thorpe would have been cleared right there.” ~ Robert W. Wheeler after he helped the Thorpe family have Jim Thorpe’s 1912 Olympic Medals restored by the International Olympic Committee after being stripped of them 70 years earlier for making $2 a game playing baseball which allegedly stripped his amateur status.

Long story short, it was another U.S. pentathlon competitor who was disgruntled that a Native American was getting all the glory at the 1912 Stockholm games and world acclaim by winning 4 of the 5 events, with Gold Medals in each, along with the overall Pentathlon medal.
