When the Auburn Tigers traveled to the Gator Bowl to play Number 7 in the Nation, Florida, in a classic SEC matchup, we had a game that came to an end. Gators quarterback Steve Spurrier passed for 259 yards with one touchdown and ran for a 1-yard score. The score was tied at 27 when the Gators' drive stalled at Auburn's 25-yard line. The Gators needed a field goal to win it. And who did they turn to but Spurrier, as he was the team's long-distance kicker; however, he had yet to make one since the opening game almost two months earlier! Spurrier was clutch, though, and he successfully kicked a 40-yard field goal to win the game. It also helped Steve Spurrier to win the Heisman Trophy as the Gators prevailed 30-27 over Auburn. ESPN in 2019 ranked it as the 117th Greatest College Game ever.
