Iowa State Cyclone football history

The Iowa State Cyclones football program began in 1892, and has a long and storied history. The Cyclones have won two conference championships, in 1911 and 1912, and have appeared in 17 bowl games.

Iowa State has had a number of successful coaches over the years, including Pop Warner, Jim Walden, and Matt Campbell. Warner, who coached the Cyclones from 1895 to 1899, is considered one of the greatest college football coaches of all time. Walden led the Cyclones to their first bowl appearance in 1978, and Campbell led the Cyclones to their first conference championship game appearance in 2017.

The Cyclones have also had a number of outstanding players over the years, including:

  • Troy Davis- the Cyclones' all-time leading rusher
  • George Amundson - the Cyclones' all-time leading receiver.
  • Breece Hall -a Cyclones running back who is considered to be one of the best players in the country.

The Cyclones play their home games at Jack Trice Stadium, which is one of the loudest and most intimidating stadiums in college football. The Cyclones have a passionate fan base, and Jack Trice Stadium is always packed for home games.

The Iowa State Cyclones football program is one of the most successful and tradition-rich programs in the Big 12 Conference. The Cyclones have a bright future, and they are expected to compete for conference championships and bowl appearances in the years to come.
