January 6, 2014 BCS Title #1 Florida State vs #2 Auburn
The stage was set for a thrilling college football showdown on January 6, 2014. The Rose Bowl Stadium in Pasadena, California, was to host the BCS National Championship Game, a clash between the Auburn Tigers and the Florida State Seminoles, the two titans of the season.
The game began with Florida State taking an early 3-0 lead. However, Auburn quickly asserted their dominance, scoring three touchdowns to establish a commanding 21-3 advantage in the first half. The Seminoles managed to narrow the gap before halftime, entering the break trailing 21-10.
The second half erupted into a thrilling back-and-forth affair. Florida State staged a remarkable comeback, eventually seizing the lead 27-24 with a stunning 100-yard kickoff return touchdown by Levonte Whitfield. Auburn, however, refused to yield, regaining the lead 31-27 with just 1:19 remaining on the clock.
Despite the late deficit, the Seminoles displayed incredible resolve. With time running out, quarterback Jameis Winston orchestrated a game-winning drive, culminating in a touchdown reception by Kelvin Benjamin with a mere 13 seconds left on the clock. Florida State emerged victorious with a thrilling 34-31 victory.
Jameis Winston and defensive back P.J. Williams were recognized for their exceptional performances, earning the distinction of being named the game's Most Valuable Players.
