Born April 5, 1951, in Owosso, Michigan, was the Michigan State Spartans hard hitting safety , Brad Van Pelt was born. The 1972 season for Brad was a special one as he earned one of his two selections as an All-American and he also became the first defensive back to ever gain attention as the Nation's best player by winning the Maxwell Award. Van Pelt then was given the Columbus Touchdown Club's Defensive Player of the Year honor as well as being named the Chevrolet Defensive Player of the Year honors. What a career he had posting 14 interceptions taking two of them to the house. The National Football Foundation voters chose the name of Brad Van Pelt for selection into the College Hall of Fame in 2001. Brad then went on to become a 5 time Pro Bowler as played in the NFL for 14 years with the New York Giants, Cleveland Browns, and Oakland Raiders.
