Appalachian State Mountaineers Football History

The Appalachian State Mountaineers football program is the intercollegiate football team for Appalachian State University in Boone, North Carolina. The Mountaineers compete in Division I Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS) of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) and are members of the Sun Belt Conference.

Appalachian State began playing organized football in 1928. The team competed independently before joining the North State Conference in 1931. The Mountaineers won their first conference championship in 1937, and they have won a total of 22 conference championships. App. State jumped to Division I-AA (now known as FCS) in 1972. The Mountaineers won three national championships in Division I-AA, in 2005, 2006, and 2007. They are the only team in North Carolina, to win an NCAA national championship in football.

Appalachian State made the move to FBS in 2014. The Mountaineers have had some success in FBS, but they have yet to win a conference championship. They have played in two bowl games, losing to Ohio in the 2015 Camellia Bowl and to Middle Tennessee State in the 2019 Camellia Bowl.

Kidd Brewer Stadium is a stadium in Boone, North Carolina, United States. It is the home field of the Appalachian State Mountaineers football team, which competes in the Sun Belt Conference of the National Collegiate Athletic Association Division I Football Bowl Subdivision. The stadium opened in 1962 and has a seating capacity of 30,400.

The stadium is named after Kidd Brewer, who served as the head coach of the Appalachian State Mountaineers football team from 1940 to 1960. Brewer led the Mountaineers to four Southern Conference championships and is considered one of the most successful coaches in the program's history.
Kidd Brewer Stadium has been the site of several memorable moments in Appalachian State football history, including the Mountaineers' upset victories over No. 5 Michigan in 2007 and No. 20 Tennessee in 2016.

The stadium has also hosted a number of other events, including concerts and high school football games.
Kidd Brewer Stadium is located on the Appalachian State University campus, just off Highway 321. The stadium is easily accessible by car and is also served by a number of public transportation options.
