2007 Backyard Brawl - Pitt vs West Virginia
The December 2, 2007, edition of the Backyard Brawl, the rivalry between Pitt and West Virginia, was a college football game held in Morgantown, West Virginia, and marked the 100th gridiron meeting of these two schools. Unranked and 4–7 Pitt, was a 28½ point underdog against The Mountaineers, were ranked second in the BCS and AP Poll and first in the Coaches Poll, coming into the game, Head Coach Dave Wannstedt had his University of Pittsburgh players ready to shut down the potent offense of Coach Rich Rodriguez, led by Quarterback Pat White and superback Steve Slaton. West Virginia was a win away from playing for the BCS National Championship, and they felt the pressure. The Mountaineers committed five turnovers and had only 183 total yards, and they couldn't recover after QB Pat White got knocked out of the game in the second quarter. Final score: Pitt 13, WVU 9. ESPN named this contest the 65th Greatest in College Football's first 150 seasons.
