1992 SEC Title Game - Bama versus Florida

The SEC Championship game played on December 5, 1992, between the Florida Gators and the Alabama Crimson Tide, found its way into one of the greatest games ever played. Florida rolled into Birmingham for the game with an 8-3 record, while Bama entered the contest ranked Number 2 in the Nation with a sparkling 11-0 ledger. The Gators changed the scoreboard first, with a five-yard TD catch by Errict Rhett in the first quarter. The Tide responded by reeling off the following 21 points. The first of these points came to a tad later on a Derrick Lassic 3-yard touchdown run to tie the game at 7–7. In the second quarter, Curtis Brown would haul in a 30-yard touchdown strike from Jay Barker to take a 14–7 lead at the half. Bama would roll further in the second half on a third Lassic fun to paydirt. The Gators started to mount a comeback as they were down by two scores. Willie Jackson would catch a pass from 4 yards out of Shane Matthews, followed by another Rhett score to knock the game at 21. The momentum was all Florida now as they looked to start marching for the go-ahead drive with just over 3 minutes left. That is when it all changed, as Matthews sailed an errant pass that landed into Antonio Langham's arms, and his pick-six of 27 yards provided the final score of 28-21 Alabama. The contest was ranked as the 94th Greatest College Football Game played in the first 150 years by ESPN.
