During much of the 1961 season, the Texas Longhorns were like a buzzsaw, knocking off the opposition left and right. That is until the Southwest Conference match-up was played on November 18, 1961, at Texas Memorial Stadium in Austin when the Texas Christian Eleven visited. The Horned Frogs, 24-point underdogs, stunned the No. 1 Longhorns in one of the biggest upsets in their series history. TCU's defense stopped UT on three drives inside the Horned Frogs' 5 and knocked out Texas star James Saxton. On the Frogs' offensive side, QB Sonny Gibbs connected with Buddy Iles on a 50-yard TD pass. It was one of the biggest upsets in collegiate history as the Longhorns lost to 24-point underdog TCU and their stifling "D" in the 0-6 upset. ESPN in 2019 ranked it as the 114th Greatest College Game ever.
