Raymond Berry’s football career is a testament to the power of hard work and determination. Drafted in the 20th round of the 1954 NFL Draft by the Baltimore Colts, Berry defied expectations and carved a Hall of Fame career.

Despite a relatively unassuming college football career, Berry’s precise route running, sure hands, and unwavering dedication quickly made him a valuable asset to the Colts.  

Partnering with legendary quarterback Johnny Unitas, Berry formed one of the most formidable passing duos in NFL history. His ability to consistently make tough catches, even in tight coverage, made him a go-to target for Unitas. Throughout his 13-year career, Berry led the NFL in receptions and receiving yards three times, earning six Pro Bowl appearances and two NFL championships.  

Beyond his on-field accomplishments, Berry’s impact on the game extended to coaching. He served as head coach of the New England Patriots from 1984 to 1989, leading the team to its first Super Bowl appearance in 1985. His legacy as a player and coach solidified his place as one of the greatest wide receivers in NFL history.

The year was 1957, and the Oklahoma Sooners were a juggernaut. With a 47-game winning streak under their belt and a third consecutive national championship in their sights, they were the undisputed kings of college football. Their opponent, the Notre Dame Fighting Irish, were a far cry from their glory days. Yet, as the two teams prepared to clash in Norman, a sense of tension filled the air.

The Sooners were fueled by a combination of pride and anger. They had recently been dethroned from the top spot in the AP Poll by Texas A&M, a slight they were eager to rectify. Moreover, they harbored resentment towards Notre Dame quarterback Paul Hornung, who had won the Heisman Trophy the previous year despite leading his team to a dismal 2-8 record. Oklahoma believed that their own star running back, Tommy McDonald, had been unfairly overlooked.

As the Irish arrived in Norman, they were greeted with a hero's welcome. A local Catholic high school organized a pep rally in their honor, and the team was treated like royalty. However, beneath the surface, a fierce determination burned within the Sooners. They were eager to avenge their 1953 loss to Notre Dame and reassert their dominance on the college football landscape.

Born August 6, 1947, in Bartow, Florida, was Pro Football Hall of Fame Corner Back, Ken Riley. Riley was a First-Team All-Pro 1983 for the Cincinnati Bengals and later was the coach of Florida A&M 1994-2003. Riley recorded 65 interceptions in his career, which was the fourth most in NFL history at the time of his retirement behind three members of the Pro Football Hall of Fame.

Before his Hall of Fame career as a cornerback in the NFL, Ken Riley Sr. carved his name in college football history as a standout quarterback at Florida A&M University (FAMU).

Leading Man of the Rattlers:

From 1965 to 1968, Riley was the starting quarterback for the FAMU Rattlers, then part of the NCAA Division II Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC). Under legendary coach Jake Gaither, Riley led the Rattlers to a dominant 23-7 record, capturing three consecutive SIAC championships (1966-1968).

Riley's offensive prowess shined. He accumulated impressive stats, including:

-3,860 rushing yards: This set a new FAMU record at the time and remains the fifth-highest total in school history.

-1,702 passing yards and 14 touchdowns: His dual-threat ability kept defenses guessing.
