Born March 1, 1884, in Vince Stevenson the University of Pennsylvania quarterback in the early 1900’s. Stevenson may have been slight in size compared to his peers on the gridiron but he made up for it with aggressiveness and quick thinking. The NFF says that Vince often pulled off the unexpected which enabled Stevenson to lead the Quakers to a perfect 12-game record in 1904. Penn out-scored its competition, 222-4, that season, and Stevenson merited All-America recognition from the revered Walter Camp. The National Football Foundation inducted Vince Stevenson into the College Football Hall of Fame in 1968.
Tom Shevlin - Yale Football Hall of Fame Legend
Born March 1, 1883, in Muskegon, Michigan, was the brilliant Yale end, Tom Shevlin. The National Football Foundation’s biography of Shevlin tells us that he was a physical specimen and fast and intimidated opposing players who would wear head and nose protection with taunts as well as viscous hits. During Shevlin's four varsity campaigns, the Elis rolled to an amazing 42-2-1 record. Tom captained the 1905 Blue and White squad that finished with a perfect 10 game record in a season when Yale out-scored the competition, 227-4. The Princeton Tigers were the only team to get a sniff on the scoreboard against Yale that season, as they finished as co-National Champions with the University of Chicago Maroons. The NFF voters selected Tom Shevlin for entrance into the College Football Hall of Fame in 1954.
