The 21st Rose bowl edition was played on New Year's Day 1935 in Pasadena, California. It featured the Alabama Crimson Tide, coached by Frank Thomas, against the Stanford Indians of Coach Claude E. Thornhill. Stanford got the scoring started on a Bobby Grayson 1-yard TD run early, but the following four scores were from the Tide in the second quarter as Dixie Howell ran in two TDs, Don Hutson caught one of his two scoring receptions, and a Smith field goal. Paul Bear Bryant played end for Alabama opposite Don Hutson. Dixie Howell was retroactively given the Player of the Game Award. Final score Alabama 29, Stanford 13.
