Some say it is terrible to work with family, yet others would have it no other way. The NFL history is littered with brothers playing on the same team, the Nessers in Columbus, the Horweens in Chicago, and the Conachers in Canada. But how about four sets of brothers on one team? We have that right now in 2022 and its in Western PA!

For those of us old enough to remember the 1979 baseball season, The Pittsburgh Pirates won the MLB's World Series and they adopted a famous Sister Sledge song, that was popular that year called, " We Are Family." On top of the home dugout at Three Rivers Stadium was the inscription of "The Family." Guys like Omar Moreno. John Candleria, Dave Parker, Phil Garner, Willie Stargell and others genuinely enjoyed playing together and it was't just a slogan, they were a unified family team. The results were that they won it all. It appears that Pittsburgh's Pro football team the Steelers are taking that up a notch.

After the 2022 NFL Draft with the 90 man roster set for the off season, the Steelers have not one but four sets of actual brothers on the team.

  • Cam and Connor Heyward
  • T.J. and Derek Watt
  • Khalil and Carlos Davis
  • Terrell and Trey Edmunds

The Davis siblings are twins and play the same position. You could say they might both be competing for the same job during the pre-season this summer. Both are Defensive Linemen from the University of Nebraska. Carlos is a bit larger than his brother standing 6'-2" and weighing in at 320 while Khalil is listed at6'-1" and 308. Carlos was drafted by the Steelers in 2020 and Khalil was signed last season as a free agent and was a sixth-round pick of Tampa Bay in the 2020 NFL draft. After playing for Tampa Bay he joined the Indianapolis Colts squad before finding his way to the Steelers.

Terrell Edmunds was a first round pick for Pittsburgh in the 2018 NFL Draft  from Virginia Tech and has been a solid starter at Safety for the defense. Trey Edmunds first played in the NFL with the Saints in the 2017 season. In 2018 he joined the Steelers as runningback depth and is a great special teams player. In fact according to his bio on Steelers.com, Trey is the first NFL player to play running back in a game and register an interception since Kenny Gamble did it against the Kansas City Chiefs on Sept. 11, 1988.

Derek Watt is fullback and special teams demon that started his career as a Charger and then signed with the Steelers as a free agent. Derek graduated from Wisconsin and was named first alternate and second alternate, respectively, for special teams and fullback for 2020 Pro Bowl. T. J. Watt, well do we have to say anymore about this Wisconsin product that who in 2021 became the highest paid NFL Defensive player and the 2021 NFL Defensive Player of the Year?  T.J. was the Steelers top pick in the 2017 NFL Draft as an Edge Rusher.

Cameron Heyward is a Defensive Lineman and so far has spent his entire career with the Steelers since being their first round selection in the 2011 Draft from Ohio State. His brother Connor Heyward was picked in the seventh round of the 2022 NFL Draft as a Full back/Tight End, two positions he played extremely well at at Michigan State over rthe past few seasons.

The Steelers are one of two franchises known to have been family owned since the beginning of their teams along with the New York Giants and the Maras. The Rooney clan has been at the helm in Pittsburgh, with one brief unsubstantial blip exceptionsince 1933 so it is approppriate that they are the first to have four sets of brothers under their employment.
