June 6, 1879 - Jimmy Johnson was the quarterback for the Carlisle Indian Industrial School from 1899 to 1903, as well as Northwestern University's Dental School in 1904 and 1905. Mr. Johnson was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame in 1969. 

The star QB was of Stockbridge Indian Heritage, and fit in well with his other Native American teammates under head coach Pop Warner at the Native American boarding school in Eastern Pennsylvania.

American Indian and College Football Hall of Fame inductee Jimmy Johnson had a brilliant career both at the Carlisle Indian School and for the Northwestern Wildcats in early football.
After his stellar time at Carlisle, Johnson continued his football pursuits while attending Northwestern's Dental School. He played for the Northwestern football team during the 1904 and 1905 seasons, again showcasing his leadership by becoming a team captain. Enjoy this series of posts that tell of the legend. July 16, 1943 - Port Arthur, Texas - Jimmy Johnson, the head coach of the national champion University of Miami Hurricanes and the Super Bowl Champion Dallas Cowboys, was born. 
Johnson got his first head coaching stint in 1979 with the Oklahoma State football team and stayed there until the Hurricanes hired him in 1984. He was unsure if he wanted to leave Stillwater or not, especially filling the shoes of former Miami coach Howard Schnellenberger, who had won Miami's first national championship in 1983 nd then left for a job in the USFL...
