Wow, just days after we aired Kyle Smith of the USFL Project, the gridiron news exploded on June 3, 2021 that the League would be making a return to the field in the Spring of 2022!

The USFL was the most successful professional spring thus far in history and according to CBS Sports it is returning with many of the team names from the 1980’s edition. To learn more about the 1980’s version of the very innovative League you need to see our June 1 post and podcast with Kyle Smith who tells us about much of the history of the USFL.

It is reported that a minimum of 8 teams will be fielded in 2022 and many of the names like the Philadelphia/Baltimore Stars, New Jersey Generals and Memphis Showboats may rise again!

Brian Woods of the New USFL told CBS that, “ I’m extremely passionate about football and the opportunity to bring back the USFL in 2022 was an endeavor worth pursuing.”

With even better timing our friend Jeremy McFarlin released an episode ont he USFL with Kyle Smith today just hours before the announcement of the League's reincarnation! We now call him Nostradamus McFarlin! Hear the great discussion here with Kyle and Jeremy! Arnie Chapman the Football History Dude also has a planned USFL history podcast release planned in the near future.
