John Davis is a former coach, football trainer and historian who has been around the game for decades. His podcastFor the Good of the Game can be found on your favorite podcast provider and on Sports History Network. John works with the MLFB in order to get it off the ground smoothly and to help ensure the League's success.
Success for the MLFB would be to train and prepare players to be able to be ready to play at higher levels of professional football. The offficial website of the MLFB which is MLFB.com states that;
"MLFB is a developmental league where players will participate for a variety of reasons
Players will receive more coaching in preparation for another look by the NFL and other leagues."
Professional and high credentialed coachs will be leading the players in their preparation. Bill Connely, Terry Shea, and Jerry Glanville are on staf now and a fourth coach will be announced soon.
Four teams will be involved inthe initial first season; the Arkansas Attack, Virgininia Armada, Ohio Force and the Texas Independence. Cities have not been announced yet as they are carefull selecting regions that are not adversarial to the NFL of Major College teams. They want the right mix of area support in an area that does not have a large market team that may conflict with another team.
Though they plan to play this fall their real intent is to play during the sping season each year to have the players ready to hit early camps in the more main stream pro leagues of football.
The eventual plan is to go slow and get it right. They plan to grow from four to six teams in the next few years and eventually grow to eight teams or more. The main objective os to devleope young players, coaches and other football personnel.
Businessman, sports agent and attorney Frank Murtha is the current CEO and president of the MLFB. John shares that Frank has guided the League through some trying times including COVID-19, the rise and fall of other spring leagues and more. But he is steady calming force that has found investors, secured a team of people and continues to ensure the League will thrive and survive.
We are excited to learn more as the league has future announcements so stay tuned.
