CFL Brand of Football

Greg James' From the 55-Yard Line Podcast shares observations of the growth of the CFL and how this League and the game they play has evolved crossed and parralelled the brand of professional football played in the U.S.

CFL NFL Differences

Key items in the difference between the Canadian Football League rules and the NFL rules:

Field size:
NFL plays on a 100 yard goal line to goal line (120 yards endline to endline) x 53-⅓ yards wide sideline to sideline. Endzones are 10 yards deep

CFL plays on a 110 yard field goal line to goal line (150 yards endline to endline) x 65 yards wide. End zones are 20 yards deep.

Fun fact: A rules meeting on October 15, 1871 by the Princeton Football Association whereby they decided the field should be 500 feet in length by 300 feet in breadth ( over 166 yards long x 100 feet wide)

Goal Posts location:
NFL on each end line
CFL on each goal line

Active participants:
  NFL 11 players per side
  CFL 12 players per side

Downs
NFL 4 downs to go 10 yards to line to gain
CFL 3 downs to go 10 yards to line to gain

Scoring:
Mostly they are the same except:
CFL has the one point kick to the end zone called the “rouge.” The Rouge is when the kicking team punts the football or misses
