"Randy White"

Last updated 📅 2025-01-15

Born January 15, 1953, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Randy White was a man on a football mission.

College Career

Randy White attended the University of Maryland from 1972 to 1974, where he played defensive tackle for the Terrapins. His college career was nothing short of spectacular. In his senior year of 1974, White earned consensus All-American honors and helped lead Maryland to an 8-3 regular season record and an ACC Championship. He was recognized as the nation's best interior lineman, winning both the Outland Trophy and the Lombardi Award. Despite Maryland's loss in the Liberty Bowl, White was named the game's Most Valuable Player. His dominant collegiate performance led to his induction into the College Football Hall of Fame in 1994.

Road to the Pro Game

White's exceptional college career made him the second overall pick in the 1975 NFL Draft by the Dallas Cowboys. Initially, the Cowboys experimented with him at middle linebacker for his first two seasons. However, in his third year, 1977, coach Tom Landry moved him to his natural position of right defensive tackle. This positional change unleashed White's full potential, and he quickly became one of the most dominant defensive linemen in the NFL.

Football Legacy

Randy "The Manster" White is considered one of the greatest defensive tackles to ever play the game. His incredible combination of strength, speed, and agility made him a disruptive force against both the run and the pass. White was the anchor of the Dallas Cowboys' defense for 14 seasons, missing only one game due to injury. His relentless intensity and consistent dominance earned him the respect of his peers and cemented his place as a Cowboys legend. He was a key component of the Cowboys' Super Bowl XII championship team.
