William Lewis "Billy" Shaw was born on December 15, 1938, in Natchez, Mississippi. He was a Hall of Fame guard who played his entire professional career in the American Football League (AFL).

Shaw played college football at Georgia Tech from 1957 to 1960. He was a two-way player, playing both offensive and defensive tackle. By his senior year, he was named All-SEC and All-American, and was the SEC's Most Valuable Lineman.

Shaw was drafted by both the Buffalo Bills of the AFL and the Dallas Cowboys of the NFL in 1961. He chose to play for the Bills.

Billy Shaw played his entire professional career (1961-1969) with the Buffalo Bills. He was a key member of the Bills' offensive line, helping them win two consecutive AFL championships in 1964 and 1965. Shaw was known for his toughness, durability, and skill as a pulling guard. He is the only player in the Pro Football Hall of Fame who never played in the NFL.
