August 30, 1977, in Florence, Kentucky, Shaun Alexander rose to prominence as a dominant running back, first in college and then in the National Football League.  

College Career:

Shaun Alexander played for the University of Alabama Crimson Tide from 1996 to 1999. After redshirting his freshman year, he burst onto the scene in 1996, setting a school record with 291 rushing yards against LSU. During his time at Alabama, Alexander set multiple school records, including career rushing yards (3,565) and career rushing touchdowns (41), though these records were later surpassed. He earned First-team All-American and First-team All-SEC honors in 1999 and was named SEC Player of the Year. His outstanding college career led to the Freshman Player of the Year Award being named in his honor.  

Road to the Pro Game:

Alexander was selected by the Seattle Seahawks in the first round (19th overall) of the 2000 NFL Draft. He spent eight seasons with the Seahawks (2000-2007) and concluded his NFL career with a brief stint with the Washington Redskins in 2008.  

Football Legacy:

Shaun Alexander is considered one of the greatest players in Seattle Seahawks history. He had a remarkable five-year stretch from 2001 to 2005, consistently rushing for over 1,000 yards and at least 14 touchdowns each season. His peak came in 2005 when he rushed for 1,880 yards and a then-NFL record 27 touchdowns, earning him the NFL Most Valuable Player and Offensive Player of the Year awards. Alexander led the Seahawks to their first Super Bowl appearance in franchise history. He holds numerous Seahawks franchise records, including career rushing yards and touchdowns. He was named to the NFL 2000s All-Decade Team and inducted into the Seattle Seahawks Ring of Honor and the Alabama Sports Hall of Fame.
