Glenn Ressler

Born on May 21, 1943, in Dornsife, Pennsylvania, Glenn Ressler carved out a reputation as a formidable force on both sides of the line during his time at Penn State University.

While the National Football Foundation highlights his role as the Nittany Lions' center, Ressler was also a dominant presence as a middle guard on defense. His exceptional skill and relentless effort earned him the prestigious Maxwell Award in 1964, recognizing him as the nation's premier player. Notably, he was only the fifth lineman to receive this honor in its then 28-year history. A two-time All-East selection and a consensus All-American in 1964, Ressler's prowess was undeniable. College Career

Glenn Ressler was a two-way standout for the Penn State Nittany Lions from 1962 to 1964. Initially showcasing his talents as a center on offense and a linebacker on defense for the freshman team in 1962 (freshmen were ineligible for varsity play at the time), he quickly rose to prominence as a dominant defensive presence. Playing middle guard, Ressler became renowned for his ability to shut down opposing running games. Road to the Pro Game

Ressler's collegiate dominance made him a highly sought-after prospect. He was drafted in the third round of both the 1965 NFL Draft (36th overall by the Baltimore Colts) and the AFL Draft (17th overall by the Denver Broncos). He ultimately signed with the Colts. Initially, Ressler served in a reserve role, showcasing his versatility by substituting at both offensive and defensive tackle during his rookie year under coach Don Shula. By his third season in 1967, Ressler found a permanent starting position at left guard for the Colts, a role he would primarily occupy for the remainder of his professional career.
