Joseph George Muha was born on April 28, 1921, in Central City, Pennsylvania. He forged a successful career as an American football player and coach in the mid-20th century.

College Career[/v]

Muha attended Virginia Military Institute (VMI) where he excelled as a football player. He was a standout performer, earning accolades such as All-Southern Conference honors. Notably, in 1942, he captained the VMI football team and received an honorable mention for All-American.

[b]Road to the Pro Game

Muha's path to the NFL was temporarily paused by his service as a second lieutenant in the United States Marine Corps from 1943 to 1947, during World War II. After his service, he was drafted second overall by the Philadelphia Eagles in the 1943 NFL draft, and he played for the Eagles from 1946 to 1950.

Football Legacy

Muha primarily played fullback, but also contributed as a linebacker and punter. He was part of the Eagles' championship-winning teams in 1948 and 1949. Known for his blocking ability and toughness, Muha later became an NFL official. He also coached at the University of Southern California (USC). He continued serving as an official referee until 1971.
