Kansas City has made it to another Super Bowl, the waiting of their kingdom has been a bit shorter than last time, but whether they will manage to beat the Eagles is another thing. Please note that there are sponsor paid links in this post. Going into this season, we did doubt their Super Bowl chances, but they soon proved us all wrong for doubting them.
They faced some pretty big losses, in Tyreek Hill (wide receiver) and Tryann Mathieu (Safety), both great players who enhanced their play early on in the season.
Many fans thought these losses would spell the downfall of the Chiefs, but they did not disappoint and kept on fighting through their losses. And, now, we will see them at another Super Bowl, to face off against the also very strong, Philadelphia Eagles!
A Super Regular Season
The Chiefs 14-3 season ended up securing them a position as the #1 AFC seed, and it ended up appearing that they had not lost a single step, instead they just reloaded and fired ahead.
They also brought in Marquez Valdes-Scantling and Juju Smith-Schuster as wide receivers, who showed off some of their best forms in their careers since they signed, making up for the Chiefs' loss of Tyreek Hill.
They also got Travis Kelce who received for over 1,000 yards and accumulated 12 touchdowns, ending up with him ranking #2 for touchdowns.
Mahomes worked with new players and old players alike for an overall improved offensive team, resulting in Kansas leading in receiving yards, touchdowns, and average receiving yards in the NFL.
Patrick Mahomes
Of course, the most important part of the team is undoubtedly Mahomes, who is an epic legend in the franchise. He has been picked as a favorite for MVP, and this season has definitely been his best. He managed to set results for his career best in completions made percentage, yards passed, and nearly met his current record for competitions made overall.
Offensive Issues
The Kansas City offense is half of what got them this far. Mahomes saw an important addition of Matt Negy, the former Bears head coach, as the new quarterback coach.
He returned to Kansas after being the offensive coordinator there for 5 years beforehand. In the past he turned the Kansas City offensive team from the 20th seed in 2016 to the 5th in 2017.
The return of Matt Negy helped to develop Mahomes even faster in his role, continuing on his development from his rookie year. However, Matt Negy has also taken to coaching Andy Reid on the offense as well to enhance the overall offensive line in the Chiefs.
So, when we consider the Chiefs as NFL Super Bowl LVII picks, we cannot forget to remember the return and influence of Matt Negy and how he has changed the game for the team.
On the offensive side of things, issues are mostly contained in the running game, since Clyde Edwards-Helaire has been out since the 11th week, and rookie Isiah Pacheco took over the primary running back position.
Pacheco has done fairly well in this however, rushing to 830 yards for the whole season.
However, aside from this, there has not been a great deal of depth taking the majority of the load, however, if they cannot get their passing game along by the time the Super Bowl comes around then they will find themselves in trouble against a team as hardcore as the Eagles.
They are only scoring from an average of 116 yards, ranking them at 20th in the league, Philly are well above this, so the Chief’s are really in for a tough game if they can’t improve this.
Kansas City’s Defensive Power
They are not quite as strong in their defense as they are strong in their offense, but there are still plenty of strong features in their defensive line that are well worth looking out for. They do well with tackles for example.
They finished the season 2nd highest in total sacks, with 55, and Chris Jones leading.
They’re also great at stopping the run game, allowing 107.2 rushing yards per each game, which is well above the league's average, and since the same applies to their passing, since they are only conceding 328.2 yards, putting them in the top #10 teams in both categories.
Issues in their defense is in scoring, as good as the Chiefs are, they do concede more than any similar team. If they struggle in their offense, then Philly could take the lead fast in the Super Bowl, and leave the Chief’s hanging.
Chiefs Vs Eagles Super Bowl LVII
The likelihood of the Chiefs winning against the Eagles is less, they’re the underdog in most bookmakers' books at the moment, but underdogs are still possible winners, and since the Chief’s have had a great season, all they need is a bit of improvement in a few areas.
That being said, it was a very close call against the Bengals in the conference games, so if the Eagles play just a bit better (and cleaner) than the Bengals, the Chiefs could be in for a nasty loss!
