The North Texas Mean Green football program began in 1896 representing the University of North Texas. The Mean Green have played in various conferences over the years, including the Texas Intercollegiate Athletic Association, the Lone Star Conference, the Missouri Valley Conference, and the Sun Belt Conference. They are currently members of Conference USA. The Mean Green have won two conference championships in their history: in 1939 and 2001. They have also played in seven bowl games, winning three of them.
